Congratulations to Dr. Jennifer Su, appointed to the California SIDS Advisory Council!
On April 20, 2020, Doctor Sonia Angell, Director of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), appointed CHLA’s Pediatric Cardiologist, Dr. Jennifer Su, to the California SIDS Advisory Council, which is legislatively mandated to advise CDPH on matters involving sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). SIDS is the leading cause of infant death between the ages of 1-month and 1-year, yet its cause remains unknown. Much needs to be done in California to help support SIDS families with SIDS education and grief counseling, reduce the risk of SIDS through safe infant sleep education, promote public education about SIDS, and support SIDS research. To assist CDPH in addressing these problems, the California SIDS Advisory Council was established in 1989. It is a nine member council, and members are appointed by the CDPH Director in recognition of their contributions to the California SIDS community. Council members are active in addressing the issues above.
Appointment to the Council is a high honor, and so congratulations to Dr. Jennifer Su for achieving this milestone!
